Blog 11: The danger of reality TV

Reality television has revolutionized our minds. The importance of competition, lack of education and the preference of image over ability are being promoted by marketers as the most important values to our society. People who lead reality television pay attention to rating. The contestant who keeps rating in the highest position and mesmerized the public wins the competition, regardless how smart or educated his opponent can be. If a contestant keeps the audience captivated, it assures his permanence in the reality show. Education has been relegated to a second place.

Timothy Sexton states that reality TV promotes the old belief that competition is the key to success in a capitalist economy. Reality TV shows reinforce the idea that life is nothing but a competition that we continually engage in with each other. (The danger of reality TV. Buzzle.com).
